First wolf attack reported in Whitman County

The Washington Dept. of Fish and Wildlife hopes to collar wolves and is reaching out to ranchers in the Lamont, Wash., area after a four-and-a-half-year-old ewe was killed Dec. 5…(with a) plan to collar and track the wolves that killed a sheep in Whitman County.  The rancher uses a range rider several times a day.  Part of a three-strand hot-wired fence around the sheep appeared to have been knocked down by a deer the night before and several sheep got out, McCanna said.  The rancher has 1,200 sheep in the area.
