12/9/14, by Matthew Weaver, Capital Press First wolf attack reported in Whitman County The Washington Dept. of Fish and Wildlife hopes to collar wolves and is reaching out to ranchers in the Lamont, Wash., area after a four-and-a-half-year-old ewe was killed Dec. 5…(with a) plan to collar and track the wolves that killed a sheep in Whitman County. The rancher uses a range rider several times a day. Part of a three-strand hot-wired fence around the sheep appeared to have been knocked down by a deer the night before and several sheep got out, McCanna said.
