Bid to bring wild wolves back to Scotland as wildlife presenter Steve Backshall explores Alaska in live show

Officially, the last wolf to be killed in Scotland was in 1680 by Sir Ewen Cameron in Killiecrankie – although there were tales of them being seen up until 1888. But if wildlife presenter Steve Backshall, 44, had his way, the howls of wolves would return to the Highlands to once again give our hills and glens a haunting choir. As he prepares to present Wild Alaska Live, which will include wolves, brown and black bears, beavers and humpback whales, the presenter has revealed his deep love of wolves. And he says he’d love to see the reintroduction of the ancient species now that beavers are living again in the southern and western Highlands – the first time since they were hunted to extinction 300 years ago.
